Brian was a very kind and caring man. His love of nature has been well documented but I saw this in full effect when he joined with us to help stop the destruction of the Garden City Greenbelt a few years back. His Knowledge and passion for nature was not lost on a captive audience, thankfully there is video footage of this allowing us all to see Brian in his element .....out and about mixing with Nature ! I had known Brian for many years since I joined the Letchworth Naturalists (as they were then known) in about 1973. He was the backbone of the Society giving us many presentations, especially showing his profound knowledge of our local fauna and flora. Using his skilful and beautiful photography he also made considerable contributions to the local scene with his books on butterflies, birds and dragonflies and many other publications.
On a more personal note I would like to add that my husband Ken & I enjoyed meeting up with Terri and Brian on our holidays in the Outer Hebrides, North & South Uist, which I'm happy to say often coincided with theirs! A chance meeting on a bench in Berneray harbour seal watching comes to mind also another on Scolpaig sea and birdwatching. Attending one of Brian's presentations to the Western Isles Natural History Society also made for very entertaining evenings.
He is sorely missed.

I first Met Brian many years ago when I first joined the natural history and he was always the man who knew everything there was to know about local wild life.
I didn’t dream then that is would be me that would eventually take over when he finally had to give up the chairmanship because of bad health.
I would like to say thank you from every one at the society for everything he did for how and everything he tried to teach us with his regular January talks, and also to say how much we will miss him.
